Galaxies

                              Information

A galaxy is a massive gravitationally bound system consisting of the stars stellar remnants an interstellar medium of the gas and dust and dark matter an important but poorly understood components. The word galaxy is derived from the Greek galaxiasliterally milky a reference to the Milky Way. Examples of the galaxies range from dwarfs with as few as ten million 107th stars 3 to giants with a hundred trillion 1014th stars 4 each orbiting their galaxy s own center of the mass.
Galaxies contain varying numbers of the star systems star clusters and types in the interstellar clouds. In between these object is a sparse interstellar medium of the gas dust and cosmic rays.

Supermassive black s holes reside at the center of the galaxies. They are thought to be the primary driver in active galactic nuclei found at the core of the some time galaxies. The Milky Way galaxy is known to harbor at least one such object
